Engineers Looking At Aircraft Plans In A Hanger

Question

The plans below show the site of an airport now and how it will look after redevelopment next year. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Model Answer

The diagram shows the changes to Southwest Airport as a result of next year's development plan. It can be seen that facilities will be significantly expanded in both the secure (airside) and non-secure (landside) areas of the airport.

In the landside area, the existing facilities will be improved. There will be a new cafe in the departure lounge to go with the one in the arrival's hall. Furthermore, the check-in process will be made easier with a new bag drop option. There will also be additional facilities for arriving passengers such as an ATM near the exit and a car hire agency just outside.

Once airside, the most noticeable difference will be an increase in the number of gates from eight to eighteen. This will be made possible by the construction of two new corridors either side of the existing atrium. Despite this increase in size, travelling between gates will be easier as the current walkway will be replaced by a sky-train.
