An Aerial View Of A Secluded Harbour

Question

The plans below show a harbour in 2000 and how it looks today. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Porth Harbour in 2000

Porth Harbour Today

Model Answer

The maps show the changes that have taken place in a fishing community between 2000 and today. Overall, it can be seen that the area has become more tourism-oriented, especially in the south.

The main change in the southernmost area is that the disused castle has been transformed into a hotel. Along with the hotel, there are other changes that make this region more attractive to visitors, such as the addition of a cafe and several shops. Additionally, the marina for private yachts has been relocated here and provided with a separate shower and toilet block. Both the new and existing washrooms are accessible from the main road.

The north of the island is largely unchanged, although it is now home to the local fishing industry. The one significant change is that the port facilities have been extended through the addition of an extra dock. Further north is the sole remaining public beach, as the one in the south is currently reserved for hotel guests.
