A Man Complaining At Hotel Reception

Question

You recently spent a night in a hotel and had to put up with a great deal of noise very in the early morning because of a faulty central heating system. The manager promised to contact you regarding compensation but still haven't heard from him. Write a letter to the hotel. In the letter - describe the problem at the hotel, explain what the manager had said at the time, say what you want the manager to do.

Model Answer

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing in relation to a night that I spent at your hotel a little over two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it was a very unpleasant experience due to the noise coming from the radiator outside my room.

As I told the duty manager, at the time, I barely got a wink of sleep because there was a constant clanking noise caused by some sort of fault in the piping system. To make matters worse, I wasn't able to change rooms as the hotel was completely booked.

The man to whom I spoke was apologetic, but said he needed to speak to the general manager before he could offer any compensation. He promised he would call me the following day with an update. That was a fortnight ago and I am yet to hear anything. Could you please contact me upon receipt of this letter and tell me when I can expect my account to be credited,

Yours faithfully,
