Model Answer

For those of us who like to travel, it can be hard to understand the attraction of never moving far from your hometown. The truth is, however, that staying close to home has its advantages.

The main reason for not moving away is often our connection to friends and family. From the moment we are born, we start building connections with the people surrounding us. By the time we are adults, we are part of a network of people that is essential to our everyday life. In fact, the longer we stay in an area, the more ties we make. Over time, we join clubs and communities, buy property, and send our children to local schools. These deepening bonds mean that moving away requires a wrench that many are unwilling to make.

Nonetheless, there are both advantages and disadvantages to staying in one place. The main advantage is that it allows you to form strong bonds within the community. If you encounter any difficulties in life, there are likely to be people you can rely on for help. The main disadvantage, however, is that you risk becoming set in your ways. Moving to a new area, especially if it is far from where you were born, exposes you to new ideas. These ideas may be challenging, but they may also enable you to grow as an individual.

Upon reflection, it is easy to see why people may choose to stay in one place their entire lives. I would argue, though, that people should consider moving away as there may be benefits to stepping outside your comfort zone.
