Model Answer

The graph shows the levels of participation in sporting and artistic activities at a social centre between 2000 and 2020. It can be seen that the number of people attending the venue increased, largely thanks to a rise in the popularity of table tennis.

The overall number of people participating in artistic activities remained stable. For example, the film club was the most popular activity throughout, consistently attracting more than 60 participants. The introduction of musical performances in 2005 led to some changes in patterns of participation. By 2020, this category was the fourth most popular. Simultaneously, attendance of amateur dramatics fell precipitously, from a high of almost 30 to only 5.

In terms of sports, martial arts ended the period roughly where it began with 35 participants, with only slight variation over the years. By contrast, after 2010, the popularity of table tennis soared with the number of players rising from 20 to more than 50 in a ten-year period, making it second only to the film club.
